Let’s have a Weekend
(and a Wedding).

Alex and Jackie

*Lagniappe (pronounced LAN-yap):
A little something extra.

We’re excited to spend a few meaningful days with the people we love in one of the greatest cities in the world, sharing the places and experiences that matter to us. There’s a lot to take in, so pace yourself.

*Why “Lagniappe?”

When Jackie and Alex first met in Portland, Oregon in 2016, Alex would always use this word, which only rang a bell from Jackie's previous trips to New Orleans. It was his WiFi password, hard to spell, and a nod to his time living in New Orleans.

Ever since then, they’ve tried to embody the spirit of the word in their relationship (and their outfits). Lagniappe is a Cajun-French word rooted in Spanish and indigenous languages and it represents generosity. We also encourage “a little something extra” in your dress code throughout the weekend.

SECURE YOUR STAY

PRO TIPS

BE NICE

This city makes everyone feel like they belong. Say “good morning,” ask “how you doin,” and if someone says “where y’at?” — they mean “what’s up.”

SLOW DOWN

Don’t expect everything (or everyone) to be in a rush. Chill out, take your time, and enjoy the moment.

TREAT YOURSELF

We’re intentionally hosting events across neighborhoods, but look at the FAQ section of our website under “What should we do in New Orleans?” for lists from Hotel Peter and Paul, the New York Times, and Alex’s Everything in New Orleans is a Good Idea

WHERE THE LOCALS GO

We're hosting events all over the city  — but whether your hunting down a po'boy, coffee or the place to dance, the city's got you covered.

GETTING AROUND

Sometimes a call to United Cab is better than a rideshare app. Bayou Bicycles and Alex’s Bikes rent two wheels. The streetcar is an experience more than a commute.

GET YOUR STEPS

Stroll Crescent Park and the Lafitte Greenway, jog beneath live oaks on St. Charles, wander the bayou around City Park, or shop your way down Magazine Street.

FOLLOW THE MUSIC

WWOZ (90.7 FM), listener-supported community radio, is your soundtrack. Check their livewire music calendar for this weekend’s concerts and the Sunday second line schedule.

BUY LOCAL

Support neighborhood shops, artists, and culture-bearers. If you need new or vintage gear to fit the moment, check out Friend, Hemline, Saint Claude Social, Rubensteins, Sneaker Politics, Full Court, and Vice & Graft.

LEARN THE LAYERS

New Orleans has a rich, joyful, and complex history. Don’t miss: The Historic New Orleans Collection, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans Museum of Art, National WWII Museum, John Scott Center, Homer Plessy plaque, and more.

FAQS

They had the privilege of living (and working) out of a Jeep Wrangler for two years during the pandemic. They logged 16,000 miles, visited 35+ states, and took countless roadside Zoom meetings. Eventually, they traded one Wrangler for another and settled in New York City with their perfect rescue pup.

We’d never jinx it by making any bold predictions, but November is typically one of New Orleans’ driest months. Hurricane season will be behind us, and we’re manifesting clear skies and crisp air, with temperatures usually in the high 50s to low 60s.

We are usually the-more-the-merrier type people, but if your invite did not explicitly mention your plus one, the answer is no. We have strict capacity limits at all the venues.

We adore all of your little ones, but this weekend is designed for adults. We know some of you may bring your kids and provide your own childcare coverage, and we think that’s great since New Orleans is family friendly.

While we're providing a few accommodation options, there's no limit to great places to stay in New Orleans. Here are a few other hotel options that don't have a room block, but offer a range of price points in good neighborhoods. The Barnett, Virgin Hotel, The Eliza Jane, The Chloe, The Roosevelt and Hotel Saint Vincent.

See top 10 above and check out recommendations from Hotel Peter and Paul, the New York Times, and Alex’s Everything in New Orleans is a Good Idea list.
